Winterwonderland

It was snowing last night – the temperature dropped down to –7 degrees centigrade and suddenly it was winter. The coldest winter for the last 100 years – according the statistic. I do like it. And due to this strong emotion of mine, I decided on the spot to spend the next new year´s eve somewhere in the mountains. Immediately I got my motor operating – I booked a hotel for some days in a beautiful ski area in Tirol, Austria.
While sitting here at my table, writing this blog, slowly the sun begins to rise, the snow starts  sparkling and the fog, covering my small village like a blanket, vanishes to nowhere and suddenly trees covered by snow and ice crystals appearing in a very sweet beauty. Encouraged by this wonderful scenery I decided to go down to the frozen Wörthsee to capture this winter wonderland for my grand children with the camera.
But before leaving I am going to present you a new recipe of a salad which I made yesterday.
It´s already some kind of tradition that on every Wednesday some kids come to visit us while their mother has to work. So the kiddies have to be fed, too, and that’s why I cooked a Maultaschensuppe for them and my friend Frauke and I enjoyed the so called “Vogerlsalad”.

I hope you will like it.
And here it is:

Ingredients (for one portion):

2

fistful

lamb’s lettuce

1

small or medium

potato (boiled, peeled and diced)

4 – 5

small

cherry tomatoes

50

g

diced raw ham

etw.

olive oil for roasting

Für die dressing:

2

tbsp

vinegar

1

tsp

sugar

1

pinch of

salt

1

pinch of

Pfeffer

3

tbsp

Olivenöl

some

Crema di Balsamico

Directions:

  1. Wash field salad.
  2. Cut cherry tomatoes into quarters.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and roast raw ham until crisp.
  4. Mix following ingredients for the dressing: vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. Then add olive oil and stir in.
  5. Arrange the lamb’s lettuce on the plate, add pieces of tomatoes and pour dressing onto it.
  6. Arrange warm pieces of potatoes on the salad and add diced raw ham.
  7. Decorate the salad by placing stripes of Crema di Balsamoco on top of it.
